The Law of God – Fulfilled or destroyed ?

Bible_101     The question which is now being asked by many of God’s children is . . . . If Christ came to “fulfill” the law, then what part did He destroy ?

This is a vital Truth for each of God’s children to know. The LORD did not come to change His Law (instructions in righteousness) . . . “For He shall magnify the Law and make it honourable” (Isaiah 42:21) . . . . but rather He has given us the promise that He will change our carnal hearts of stone !

Verily, verily, I say unto you . . . Ye must be begotten again !”
John 3:1-7, James 1:18 & I Peter 1:22-25

ref: Nehemiah 9:12-21 & 9:26-29 & Zechariah 7:11-12 & Jeremiah 4:3& Hosea 10:12 & Ezekiel 36:25-28 & Jeremiah 31:31-34 & Hebrews 10:16-17).

And our Lord and Saviour said . . . “Think not that I am come to destroy the Law, or the prophets. For I Am not come to destroy, but to “fill full” . . . . For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away (II Peter 3:10-11), one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, until all be fulfilled (filled to the fullest) !” Matthew 5:17-18

When the children of Israel stood below mount Sinai, and heard the Word of the LORD, they in their zeal said . . . “All that the LORD hath said, we will do !” But the righteousness of God, they attempted to achieve through their own human efforts and power. And this is verily an impossibility. They were like Nicodemus, on that night he came to seek Truth from the Lord Jesus Christ. And that which our Saviour spoke to Nicodemus, He is still speaking to each of us “Today, if we will only hear His Voice . . . !” Hebrews 3:7-19

And Jesus said, “Marvel not that I say unto you, Ye must be born (begotten) again !” John 3:1-7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the Law of God, neither indeed (in deeds) can be. So then, they that are yet in the flesh cannot please God !” Romans 8:2-8 “For we know that the Law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold (through Adam’s faithless transgression) under sin !” Romans 7:10-14″

He, the Lord Jesus Christ (Adoni Yehushua ha Moshiac), came to redeem us from the law . . . Not the Law of righteousness, which He has promised to write in our hearts, but from the “law of sin and death” in Adam. For the Bible assures each of us, that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Sovereign King) !” Romans 6:23 and ref: Jeremiah 31:31-34 & Ezekiel 36:25-28

That which was done away with was the sacrifices and offerings which only typified and foreshadowed the Redeemer to come ! “For this is the name whereby He shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS !” . . . . “And thou shalt call His name JESUS (Yehushua): for He shall save His people from their sins . . .!” Jeremiah 23:5-6 & Matthew 1:21

And according to the Word of Almighty God, “Sin is the faithless transgression of the law . . . !”   I John 3:4 & Romans 14:23.    So when read as intended, and allowing the Scripture to interpret themselves, the LORD has literally given us His unfailing promise, that “He (JESUS) shall save His people from continuing in the bondage and practice of sin !

Who gave Himself in exchange for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity . . . and purify unto Himself (Ephesians 5:26-27 & John 15:3), a peculiar people, zealous of good works !”   Titus 2″14

It is for this reason that every man, Jew or Gentile, must have faith in Christ Jesus; faith in a Redeemer, faith in that mighty work which He has wrought for each of us upon the cross of Calvary. For it is not mere outward obedience to the written command, which God desire alone, but the inward surrender and conversion of the heart. So that by faith in His promised Word, we may rise from the dead, and live as new creations in Christ Jesus ! Halleluyah !!!

And this Jesus explained in the sermon on the mount, when He said . . . .Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery . . . but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust (with desire) after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart . . . !” Matthew 5:27-28

This is why the very heart of man must be changed, and that is only possible through the Divine Influence (grace* G5485) upon the heart, and its reflection as seen in the life. This is a supernatural change, one that is only possible through a union by faith with Christ Jesus ! “For it is not by might, nor by power . . . but by My Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts !” Zechariah 4:6

And this is what the children of Israel turned away their hearts from, and refused to hear (Exodus 20:19) . . . the Spirit of the Law. For they knew, that only through a complete surrender of the will, not just outward actions, can such a change be made.

And just like today, so few are ready and willing to make so great a surrender. For it is a marriage between Christ Jesus and His people, He is our Head and we are His bride. And as such His greatest desire is for us to willingly trust and surrender our will to His, knowing that all His commands and promises are for our own benefit and life !

Many of those, for whom the Lord Jesus Christ has paid in full with His Own Life and blood, are repeating the refusal of our fathers in the wilderness, in saying . . . “We will eat our own bread (food, as we desire), and wear our own apparel (their own righteousness): only let us be called by Thy name, to take away our reproach . . . !” Isaiah 4:1 But the LORD says, through His apostle Paul . . . “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, so that grace may abound?   God forbid. How shall we, that are now dead to sin, live any longer therein . . .?” Romans 6:1-14

“For the Law of the Spirit of (and) Life in Christ Jesus, hath made me free from the law of sin and death (in Adam). For what the law (written in ink and on stone) could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh . . . . God sending His Own Son, in the likeness of sinful flesh, and in exchange for sin (II Corinthians 5:21), condemned sin in the flesh . . . . that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled (filled to it’s fullest) in us, who walk not (live not) by the flesh, but after (by) the Spirit !” Romans 8:1-4
For the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit and they are Life !” John 6:63
